Home Security
One of the lessons that Hurricane Katrina taught us is that desperate people do desperate things.
And who can really blame them? When a man's family is in danger he will do practically anything to protect them. Unfortunately this often means using violence to take from others in order to save his own.
We have been advocating that you spread the word about the dangers of an impending pandemic to all who will listen so that everyone will be prepared. But some people just won't listen. And it's from those people that you need to take extra precautions. When a pandemic strikes they will be panic stricken and desperate.
Here are some steps that you can take to help ensure the safety of your family...
Establish a Network
Get together with your neighbors and arrange for a system of communication and action if anyone gets into trouble. You won't be able to count on the police for protection. Do some practice trials.
Spread the Word.
Regardless of how much coverage the avian threat is receiving in the media, most people are reluctant to act. Perhaps if they don't acknowledge the danger they think it will somehow go away. Or maybe they think the government will look after the situation.
Desperate, panic stricken people are arguably even dangerous than the virus. The more people surrounding you who are prepared for the pandemic, the safer you will be. You'll be secure in the knowledge that your neighbors won't be eyeing your resources. So please spread the word. And don't give up, even though you may feel like the voice in the wilderness. Eventually, if they hear it often enough, some people will take notice. And then they will also spread the word. And in this way we'll all be a little safer.
One effective way of educating your friends and neighbors is by giving them something to read. Here's an informative brochure that you can download and print out. Just click on this LINK.
If you need larger quantities to pass out, just let us know, telling us how many you need and where to send them. We'd be happy to provide them to you free of charge. Send your request to survive@telus.net.
Security Proof Your Home
Install dead bolts and peep holes on all of your doors - and keep your doors locked.

Peep holes will not only tell you who's at your door, they will also show whether he/she is wearing a face mask or not. You can keep a supply of masks available for your visitors just outside your door.
For inside the house you can install The Siren Safety Lock which uses the same security found in many hotels that allows you to partially open a door to see and speak with visitors while preventing the door from opening further. For additional security an built in alarm will sound if an intruder attempts to open the door. The alarm can alert you to the attempted break in, scare off the attacker, and summon help.
Create a safe room inside your home -- one that you can lock from the inside.
Keep a charged cell phone inside this room.
If you don't have a dog, make it look like you have one. Put a dog dish outside beside the door. Put a pair of large work boots outside beside the dog dish in plain sight. Place a 'Beware of Dog' sign up. There's an electronic device that will make the sounds of an angry watchdog which is very realistic. It even gets louder and more frequent as the intruder gets closer. And it senses movement through walls, doors, and windows.
Put a sign on your windows: "This Home Monitored by ABC Security Services". You can also install a window alert that will send out a 95 decibel alarm if someone tries to break a window. They're inexpensive enough that you could put one on every window of your house.
There are also outside motion detectors that you can install. The "Driveway Alert" will alert you if a car or person passes by the transmitter. Simply place the transmitter near the entrance to your driveway and anything passing by the transmitter will cause the receiver to sound a pleasant chime.
Personal Protection
As a last resort you should have some means of protecting yourself if everything else fails. The items on this page are meant for those who are not comfortable, or experienced with regular firearms. If you have guns in your home, and you know how to use them, you don't need our advice.
For those who don't have guns and don't want to own them there are other alternatives. One is the Stun Gun.
Stun guns are extremely effective. Their one drawback is that you have to be close to your assailant and therefore aren't effective from a distance. They're also banned in some states and also in some cities.
The one that we like the most is the Cell Phone Stun Gun. It looks just like a cell phone, so you can carry it openly with you and it won't arouse suspicion. (Note - this unit does not work as a cell phone.)
For an effective defense from a distance we would suggest an AIR TASER which is most effective from a distance of from seven to ten feet away. Upon firing, compressed nitrogen projects two AIR TASER probes 15 feet at a speed of 135 feet per second. An electrical signal transmits throughout the region where the probes make contact with the body or clothing.
The result is an instant loss of the attacker's neuromuscular control and any ability to perform coordinated action. AIR TASER uses an automatic timing mechanism to apply the electric charge. The AIR TASER releases an electric current in a pre-set time sequence (an initial seven seconds followed by several 1.8 second breaks for a total time of about 30 seconds in each cycle). This cycle ensures that the nervous system of the target does not recover instantly to allow him to remove the probes. The follow-on bursts disrupt the process of re-equilibration of the nervous system. It can also be used like a stun gun, in that if you miss your target, you can achieve the same effect by simply touching him with the unit.
Once again, check your local city and state laws.
