Hi,

In addition to the information and link provided below, I just wanted to make sure you were aware there is a "Sambucol for Kids" also by the same brand (Nature's Way).

You may also want to investigate what people are saying about homeopathics as another alternative. Both Oscillicoccinum and Influenzinum are effective in preventing and treating flu as starting points. Other homeopathic remedies are worth being knowledgeable of for treatment of pneumonia symptoms, coughs, fevers, overall weakness, etc. I am not an expert, but have been an avid user for about 5 years.

Regards,
Suzanne Rielle

Dear Bob and Julie, I have been doing a lot of reading about herbs and preparations that might help the avian flu and there was a "RED" flag about Sambucol! It might excite the condition and make it worse. I appreciate your newsletters and hope this helps. Sincerely, Jean Skolnik

Hi. It is to my knowledge that the reason Tamiflu is no longer being offered to the general public is because of the people you are encouraging to buy it. Because H5N1 is a type A influenza virus, it can easily change and morph into more powerful strains. It does this by simultaneously infecting a cell with two different strains of the virus. The most common host to this change is humans. We are the "mixing pots" in which H5N1 is to change into the pandemic threat you are worried about. Because these overreacting Americans are buying and taking these anti-viral drugs, the threat of the virus to morph is becoming greater. The influenza strain they are taking these drugs for is becoming more and more resistant to these drugs and will eventually not be affected by them. In this situation, if this mild and non-life threatening strain of influenza was to mix with the avian influenza, the result will be a pandemic of epic proportions. The new strain will inherit the ability to spread from human to human, and will retain the deadly characteristics of the avian flu. The Switzerland pharmaceutical company offering these drugs realized this and that is why it is no longer being offered to Americans. I understand you are trying to help this situation, but you must realize that you are probably just making it worse. Please take this into consideration.

Sincerely,
A concerned citizen.

I think the Tamiflu rush is in vain. People should be concentrating more on what nature has. There is nothing new on the earth. Our answers for protection are not in drugs.

Too many people will be rely on the tamiflu and not taking the responsibilty to protect themselves. Hands nose mouth cell wall is where we need to be focusing not on a hit and miss drug.

Rose H.

Dear Bob and Julie,

Thanks so much for you information on Tamiflu. I am considering placing an order ASAP. However, I am not sure how much to order and what the correct dosage would be for adults/children. I have 3 children ages 12, 10, 8. Can you direct me?

I have been trying to spread the word, however, most people are not that concerned. Most are not even aware of the situation and didn’t hear the President speak about it. I have been constantly discussing this with my family (brothers, sisters) and getting some resistance. I have directed them to your website.

Thanks again.
Kathleen

Roche removed Tamiflu from the shelves last fall because so many people were stocking up on it and there was concern that there wouldn't be an adequate supply to satisfy the flu season. However, it appears to be available once again, and if you're a believer in the product (as we are), now is the time to stock up. You'll find a link on our website where you can order it online through Edrugstore.

Hi Bob and Julie, Thanks for the updates. You are doing a great job!

Just to let you know I have secured a quantity of FFP3 / N99 valved respirators. These are the grade of respirators the UK Government state are necessary for health workers to wear when treating anyone suspected of having bird flu. I have taken delivery of them and can let anyone on your mailing list have them at preferential prices.

These sell at between £5 and £7, but I are happy to let anyone on your list have them for £3.50 each plus postage at cost. We would prefer payment by PayPal to simplify the process.

Feel free to give out my email address which is halthedroid@aol.com . I would send them out on a first come first served basis.

Best wishes,
Ian

Julie & Bob,

Just want to thank you for caring enough to do something here. I truly pray that it will all be unnecessary. But if it isn't I thank you in advance for helping me and my family to prepare.

Sincerely,
Elaine.

I've ordered my NanoMasks as stocking stuffers this year and I hear they shipped today, bought Kim Chi and sauerkraut and Epsom salts, am stocking up on food and supplies and got flu and pneumonia shots. I live in Ohio, and since she's only filming in Az and Ca, if she'd like a quote from someone else from 30 years in the film biz, I'd be happy to communicate with her. I am sad and somewhat appalled with my own friends (all mostly brilliant) who don't take it seriously and prefer to think I'm "over-reacting."

When I sent a friend (I've known since 1972) your website, the only words she wrote back were, "Are you on your meds?!?" (Meant as a joke as if I had gone mad.) I saved that back and forth communication from a week or two back. This is a school teacher, in charge of the welfare of our societies' kids, without one shrapnel of survival instinct left in her. It's been bred out of many of us through luxuries and complete and utter denial it could "happen to them in 2005!" Perhaps viewing "Gone With The Wind" one more time with special care to witness Scarlet scraping the earth for a root to eat might wake up some folks.

Hi

I heard that you have or are able to provide some information on anti-viral tissues/wipes. Is this true? Could you please provide me with some information on my inquiry?

Thank you!
Lisa

Lisa...

Not sure if they're available in Canada yet, but here's the link:

Dear Bob and Julie

Thankyou for the handouts which I received on Friday. I haven't seen anything similar in the UK although we have had a few informative TV programmes on Avian Flu recently. I attend several playgroups and nurseries with my 2 year old Son and I will distribute the information to as many people and places as possible as I know very few people in this country who are taking this possible pandemic very seriously at the moment.

Thanks again and also for the e.mails which are good for keeping us up to date with the latest!

Sent With Best Wishes
Debbie W.

p.s - Just to let you know I ordered Tamiflu from ABC Pharmacy in Canada over 4 weeks ago and I have so far received nothing. E.mails to the company have gone unanswered and the staff on the phone aren't exactly very helpful either!

Finally I have found someone who seems to think, as I do, that there are a number of things that individuals, families and communities can and must be doing to prepare for a flu pandemic. Your newsletter is a breath of fresh air. I have been working on a newsletter covering much of the same things you are for my circle of email acquaintences. I keep thinking of things that local businesses and services and churches could be doing in small communities that would help lessen the impact of the flu. Anything which lessens contact between people and increases self-reliance for fuel, electricity etc. will help immeasurably. I can't understand why the government is not recommending some simple things like recommending that people try to stockpile 6 months or so of imperishable foods and making provisions to handle extended power outages, etc. Also the issue of people--usually families, joining forces at whatever location is best suited for them to help each other survive--before the flu gets to our shores.

Anyway, I will send you a copy of my newsletter when I get it ready and will keep enjoying yours.

Sincerely,
Karen Driscoll

We wondered whether the H5N1 virus could be transmitted by mosquitoes in the same way as Malaria and West Nile Virus and posted the question on CurEvents.com. The following reply is by Dr. Joe Neubarth, a well-known and regular on the forum...

If I remember right, in Indonesia, the doctors were quite convinced that insects could be vectors to transmit Bird Flu.

As far as spreading it to humans, I'd think that the Sichuan Sheet strain since it is a hemorrhagic fever inducing virus could be transmitted by mosquitoes. That is probably how most of it is spreading.

I am one who believes that several of the large outbreaks in India that have been called "mystery illnesses" are Sichuan Sheet. SS will probably not be seen as a pandemic virus, because it appears to only be transmitted via body fluid contact/exchange. Butcher a Sichuan Sheet infected pig with your bare hands and you have a little nick on one finger, you gonna die!

Sichuan Sheet is probably the killing machine in Yemen, and it probably got those three different cow herds in the Ukraine, but if it is relying on assistance from mosquitoes to spread, the northern climate at this time of year may provide some protection for people because there are less mosquitoes out and about.

Not so, of course, in India or Yemen or Africa. The news is just starting for them, and it is not going to be good...

Thank you, for the information. I currently work for a county jail, and purchase many items, for the facility, I.E. face masks, cleaning agents, etc. So since we hold I.N.S. personnel who come from various countries and possible bring overseas contagions with them. I try to keep updated.

If you have any further info, please keep me informed.

Thanks again.
Dave Laughlin

Thank you both for the wonderful service you are providing with the information you are giving out.

Where would be the best place (dealer / distributor) to order the Nanomasks and Filters from? I would highly appreciate a response at your earliest convenience.

Thank you again, and keep up the good work.

Ej Charles.

The company that makes the NanoMask is called Emergency Filtration Products and their website has a listing of worldwide distributors. Here's the LINK.

Dear Bob and Julie,

Nice newsletter. Thanks.

Note: I have found N 95 masks in a number of local suppliers. Duron Paint Stores carry three types of N 95 face masks. They had the bubble type masks; a type that looks something like a dishcloth stretched across the nose and mouth; and a respirator-type mask with N-95 filters. A local welding supply store also carried N 95 masks.

I don't want to hinder your business, because I think you are doing a great service, but there are many people who just don't like to order things, and would stop by a store and perhaps buy some masks.

Since your major objective is to get people to protect themselves by having good masks, you might tell them to check out these stores for N 95 masks:
  • Any good welding supply store.
  • Any good paint supply store.
  • Any really good builders supply store. (Where I got mine. Not Lowes or Home Depot.)

I wanted to get the feel of the 1918 flu pandemic. I wanted to know details of how the flu spread across the world, what impact it had upon communities, how it affected individuals, how people reacted, and what was tried to protect people from the virus.

So, I purchased and read a book: The Great Influenza - The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague in History by John M. Barry (2004 Penguin Books, $16 at Barnes & Noble)

Granted, this was 1918 and H1N1, not 2006 and H5N1 (or whatever this virus might evolve into), but it still graphically describes how the virus spread around the world and how overwhelmed communities were with dealing with sick people and dead bodies.

There were several things in this book that struck me. First was that while normal flu kills more very young and very old people, the l918 flu killed more people in their 20s and 30s than any other age. Those people 60 or older were hardly affected at all. This seems to be true because the young people had the strongest immune systems. As the virus invaded the lungs, the immune system kicked in so strongly that it filled the lungs with fluid making it impossible for oxygen to be transferred to the blood. This caused people to turn blue. They sometimes turned so blue that it became difficult to distinguish racial identity, black from white. Many people thought it was not the flu, but was the Black Pleague. ( All those folks who are trying to strengthen their immune systems out there might think a second time about this tactic.)

Secondly, the only individuals and communities that survived the flu, without any cases, were those who ruthlessly isolated themselves and let nobody come in the community. There were just a few examples of this in 1918. There were some who just let in doctors or nurses, who brought in the virus with them, and people died as a result.
Thirdly, the time frame of the pandemic went something like this: the first wave began in March, 1918 and ended about August, 1918. This made lots of people sick, but it was not very deadly. Then the second wave began around September, 1918, and ended about December, 1918. This was the killer wave and the author speculates the virus changed to make it so deadly. The third wave came from about January, 1919, and continued on until about May, 1919. The third wave was not quite as deadly as the second, but some cities had many more deaths in the third wave than the second. The virus still flared up around the world during 1920, 1921, and 1922. The good news is that in any given community, from the first case to the time the virus seemed to have run its course, the duration was about 6 to 8 weeks. (Thank goodness we don't have to stock food to last a couple of years.)

Finally, the author did not mention any riots or looting or total breakdown of law and order. Communities were frightened and families tended to stay at home and avoid any contact with others. Businesses seemed to shut down and everyone sort of held their breath while the virus spread around. There was no gasoline shortage (in 1918 the economy was probably more dependent on coal than on gasoline.). The author did mention that many infants starved to death or died of cold exposure when their parents died of the flu and nobody came to rescue the babies. I suspect that the population of 1918 was more self-sufficient as far as food is concerned than we are today, since most of us are not farmers nor food producers and are dependent upon the food growing and distribution chain.

Oh well. Just thought I would share these ideas with you.

    Bill Love

I am from DeQuincy, Louisiana which was a town hit by Hurricane Rita in September. Much of the information in the article was very similar to what we dealt with when we were allowed to come back home. It was devastation, no phone, no electricity, no ice to keep medicines refrigerated, no food (all was spoiled), no water (tree uprooted which pulled up my water line). A serious problem also was that we could get no gas for our cars and generators. Curfews in place meant we would be put in jail if we traveled after 6:00 PM. Of course, trees were everywhere including on our houses which made it difficult to even get into our homes. The washer and dryer that I put out by the road to have thrown away three months ago is still there along with a lot of other people's garbage. So, I can identify with what you're saying. Today on "Meet The Press", Tom Brocaw mentioned that he and his family were preparing for this threat. It was the first time that I even took notice. Thanks for your help in letting people know about this. Cheri H.
